Boredom Busters

"I'm bored." When you hear that, it's time to think up some fun. Here are some starters!

  • Inside...
  • Play a card game, or learn a new one

  • Do a watercolor painting together

  • Draw portraits — it doesn't matter how rudimentary!

  • Build a birdhouse

  • Make a fort with your furniture and blankets

  • Bake cookies, or muffins

  • Write a song or poem

  • Dance to your favorite music

  • Teach your child to sew, knit, or crochet

  • Take some wild and crazy pictures of each other, and you and your child(ren) together

  • Play a board game or card game; learn a new one!

  • Do a puzzle

  • Make an origami creature

Outside...
  • Play a yard game

  • Race around the block

  • Take cookies to a neighbor

  • Make chalk drawings on the sidewalk

  • Fly a kite

  • Get out your binoculars (if you have them), and watch birds

  • Jump rope

  • Go bike riding / triking / strollering

  • Walk on a trail (can be a math lesson: count steps, count trees, count flowers)

  • Shoot baskets

  • Make the world cleaner and greener and pick up trash at a nearby park or trail

  • Plant flower seeds and watch for the miracle

  • Take a board game along and play a game at a picnic shelter, or in the sunshine

  • Kick a ball

  • Go to a playground

  • Go fishing

  • Go sledding or skating

What else? Be creative and think outside the box...
